breaking free from sleeping-in

I’ve found that I’m able to wake up in the Amrit Vela (3-7 am) once in a while but so far not on a regular basis.  I’ve even recently moved my alarm clock across the room so that I need to get out of bed and walk across my room to turn off the alarm.  This worked great the first day, but the second day I think I snoozed my alarm 10 times (yes getting out and back in bed 10 times).   My brain came up with several good reasons for this, but none that can match or even beat the feeling that I have when I do get up and start my Sadhana.  And that is the weak excuse for not getting up and being awake during my favorite hours of the day.  Yes, the hours of 3-7 am are my favorite.  I find it very calm, peaceful and divinely blissful. The beauty of summer is…

No, wait – what I want to say is the summer of beauty is that we throw out our regular winter schedule and let freedom in our hearts.  Unless we live in a climate that promotes year round sunshine we fall back to hibernate with the leaves in autumn until spring comes.  Right now our Valentine’s Day let downs are in the past and the ‘holidays’ are still months away so we allow ourselves to set aside our colder emotional side and open our hearts.  We take to embracing our bodies by being more physically active.  We’re at the beach, going for hikes, camping, riding bikes etc… Our clothes become looser and more free-flowing.  We get out side and enjoy the fresh air (or as fresh as your city gets).  We even tend to eat lighter and healthier.  Our hearts crack open and glow with our smiling faces.  Okay, now I want a show of hands… who’s had a summer romance?  My hand is raised.  So why is that?  What makes summer so special?  The role of vitamin D in summer is so powerful that everything and everyone seems more beautiful.  It kicks our emotional freedom into high gear from our cell being rejuvenated with rays of love (a.k.a. the sun).   Continue reading
